Is it cumbersome or expensive to charge the battery of an electric car? | |
I'm entertaining the idea of buying a fully electric car. Is it cumbersome to charge the battery? Expensive?
Answers:
1It's very easy and cheap. Electric vehicles plug into your normal wall outlet - or for fast charging, you can have a 220v outlet installed.

Electricity is way cheaper than gasoline. I did a comparison of fuel costs this week: we drive 1300 miles per month. In our 18mpg car at $3.10/gallon, that costs us $224 per month. That same 1300 miles costs $8 in an electric vehicle. Yes! EIGHT DOLLARS! (4 miles per kilowatt-hour, and we have an 'EV charging rate' for electric cars here of 2.5 cents per kwh.) The fuel savings, plus EV tax breaks will almost cover the monthly payments on an electric car, like this one below:

This car costs $28500, and gets 200 miles per charge.
How long do the batteries last? Well LI-ION batteries are good for 500 charges. At 200 miles per charge, that's 100,000 miles.
